Mortality and hospitalisations are up
Numbers are on the upswing in all countries on my list. As during past buildups to renewed peaks, the incidence went up first, followed by the ICU occupation and lastly, 3-4 weeks later, mortality rose as well. During this time the R-value moved above 1 and the positive rate inched closer to the 5% mark. Germany is a little behind but mortality should increase within the next two weeks. WA State's mortality is decreasing due to their number crunching (as explained on the graph). Otherwise, numbers would be plateauing or be slightly on the rise.
It seems as if we had given up the fight.
And the fight is against the anti-vaxxers, the deluded people, those who let fear reign their lives, those who believe charlatans. Because it is almost exclusively the unvaccinated that drive these numbers.
The best news come from Covid-stricken Tunisia with its remarkable increase in testing and vaccination. France has promised help with the vaccines and I hope that actions will follow Macron's words. For the first time, the projections (dotted light lines) look better than those for the rich countries.

Now that I have full protection against the virus and the (so far) known variants, my chances of getting severely ill are close to zero. I can now go back to my old life, and I have already enjoyed a birthday party where nobody wore a mask indoors. Because we were all vaccinated. This was liberating.
But I am dreaming. Because the life around me is rife with restrictions. Masks, distancing, vaccination certificates, border controls, concerts. I miss touching people, caressing, kissing.
There is a clearly defined segment of our population who is responsible for these continued restrictions. I blame them for making my life unnecessarily miserable. They hold the majority of us hostage.
There is little I can do about it other than enjoying the few liberties that my own vaccination allows me. And the hope that governments will tighten the screws.
